Royal fans are raising questions about Prince William's outfit choice after he showcased a new style at an awards event.

When it comes to the royals, one thing is certain - they always dress to impress.

The focus often falls on royal women, whose outfit choices are constantly under scrutiny.

The late Queen was famous for her vibrant clothing, and no one else could don the same color during family gatherings.

However, it is Prince William's recent fashion choice that has caught the public's attention, as he wore a notably casual royal ensemble at the Earthshot awards ceremony in Cape Town yesterday (7 November).

During last year's ceremony, the prince donned a velvet suit with a dicky bow, but this year he opted for a look that was the complete opposite.

Royal enthusiasts are split on their opinion of this new appearance, which some have labeled as much more 'casual'.

While his upper attire adhered to royal protocol, it was his choice of footwear that sparked most of the discussion.

On the green carpet, he sported a vintage grey checked blazer and a light blue shirt, complemented by white biodegradable sneakers.

Although some have praised this bold and eco-friendly decision, others found it slightly perplexing.

In the comments of an Instagram post, one user remarked: "Love this, but who forgot to give William the dress code?!"

Another concurred: "Did William's luggage get lost, forcing him to borrow clothes from several people?"

A third commented: "I don’t think I’ve ever seen Prince William at an event in sneakers!! I’m shocked, but he’s probably tired of always dressing up."

Some noted it was 'nice' to see the prince appearing more relaxed, saying: "I'm loving his new casual look at certain events; it's very heartwarming.

"He's an amazing man, professional and compassionate, well-loved by many."

The environmental event was initiated by the future king back in 2021 to raise awareness about the ongoing climate crisis.

William also discussed his wife, Kate Middleton, at the event, providing a health update on her behalf.

When asked about Kate's recovery, William responded: "She's doing really well, thank you.

"Hopefully she's watching tonight and cheering me on.

"She's been amazing throughout this year, and I know she'll be eager to see tonight's success."
