Anyone wearing claw clips whilst driving issued grim warning

A doctor has issued a strong warning to fans of claw clips about the potential dangers of wearing them while driving.

Although these chic hair accessories have been around for decades, their popularity has surged in recent years. TikTok influencers are constantly showcasing new styling ideas, and celebs frequently flaunt them on Instagram.

However, one medic is using their platform to highlight that fashionable hairstyles might come with risks, especially when driving. Taking to Instagram, ER doctor and social media influencer Dr. Joe shared his advice in a shocking new video.

"Here's a friendly PSA for all the women out there," he began. "Do you enjoy wearing these claw-style hair clips?"

The doctor continued: "I've had to remove several of these from women's heads following car accidents.

"These small plastic items can be incredibly difficult to extract from under the scalp once they become embedded.

"Even worse are the metal ones. I once treated a patient who had a metal hair clip in her head during a car accident, which resulted in a skull fracture and a brain bleed."

Offering some sobering advice, he warned his followers: "Take precautions if you're in a car with these hair clips.

"It might be wiser to choose a different type of hair accessory."

Naturally, Dr. Joe's warning has left some of his followers feeling uneasy, with many deciding to abandon claw clips altogether.

"Yikes, I'm glad I stick to scrunchies," one fan confessed.

Another commented: "Oh my! I never knew these could be so harmful to someone's skull - Thanks for the info.

"I'll remain a Scrunchie gal forever!"

Another quipped: "Me: Puts phone down, cuts hair."

A fourth explained: "They're uncomfortable to wear while driving because they interfere with my headrest, which is why I remove them."

"Wow, I never imagined this could happen. They're uncomfortable, but I will never wear them again. Thank you," wrote another.

Dr. Joe's warning follows a fashion fan's harrowing experience at the hospital, after she was involved in a serious road accident while wearing a claw clip.

Taking to TikTok last year, Paisley Nicole recounted riding in a car with her friend when she mentioned she 'needed to go to the bathroom', prompting her friend to make a sharp turn.

"We were traveling at just under 20 miles per hour," she recalled. "The back of my head struck a metal bar, embedding the claw clip into my head."

She was rushed to a nearby emergency room, where she added: "Upon arrival, they immediately took me for a CT scan and X-rays of my head and chest to ensure there was no brain damage, which, fortunately, there wasn't."

Thankfully, the damage to Paisley's skull was not life-threatening.

However, she did require five staples in her head.

So, if this doesn't deter you, I'm not sure what will.
