The Royal Box at Wimbledon stands as one of the most esteemed seating areas in the realm of sports, typically reserved for an elite cadre of guests. However, this exclusivity doesn't exempt them from adhering to the rules.
Situated at Centre Court, the Royal Box comprises 74 seats and operates on an invitation-only basis extended by the Chairman of the All England Club.
While members of the Royal Family often occupy seats in the Royal Box, the suite is not exclusively designated for British Royals despite its name.
Since 1922, this world-famous tennis event has utilized the Royal Box for entertaining friends and guests of Wimbledon.

Typically, royals from across the globe, heads of government, sports icons, commercial partners, and members of the British armed forces are seated in these premier positions.
Nevertheless, attendees must adhere to numerous guidelines without exceptions.
In 2015, a well-known sports figure famous for his daring fashion choices was barred from the Royal Box at Wimbledon. This individual was none other than Formula 1 racer and 2025 Met Gala co-chair Sir Lewis Hamilton, who was denied entry due to a misunderstanding of the dress code.

Men invited to the Royal Box must comply with a strict dress code requiring a smart jacket, tie, and shoes.
“Lewis arrived without the proper attire due to a communication lapse with his assistants,” said Richard Lewis, the former chief executive of the All England Club, in a statement to Sky Sports News.
“The situation was amicably resolved, and we have extended a warm invitation to Lewis to return to the Royal Box in the future, which I'm confident he will accept.”
The rules are so stringent that even those closely connected to the Royal Family, such as Pippa Middleton, receive no special treatment.

Regrettably, Kate Middleton’s sister missed out on attending Wimbledon in 2017 alongside their mother, Carole Middleton.
The mother-daughter pair were reportedly turned away from the Royal Box eight years ago due to their tardiness.
Wimbledon enforces a strict policy that prevents latecomers from occupying the Royal Box seats.

In case you were wondering, the 'protocol' for female guests also requires 'smart' attire, such as an 'afternoon dress or elegant trouser suit.'
Moreover, hats are prohibited, as the official guidelines state: "Ladies are asked not to wear hats, as they tend to obscure the vision of those seated behind them."
